Sublimation printing is a printing technology that prints on a special paper. Then the image on the paper will transfer to the fabric. This fabric is usually made of polyester or polyester blend. In this process, the ink will facilitate its transfer to the fabric. Sublimation printing has some common printing fabrics as follows.
Sublimation printing is not suitable for 100% cotton.Cotton cannot permanently bond with sublimation ink dye.Because it is made of natural fibers. If you try to print on cotton, the ink will only temporarily shift and washes away.So even if you print on cotton fabric, the ink is easy to fade.
Polyester is an excellent material for sublimation printers. When heating, the polymer in the fabric will expand and the ink will change into a gas state. This will allow it to easily enter the fabric through the pores and bind when the fabric cools. Even if it is worn for a long time, the polyester is not easy to wrinkle. This is because ink dyes can easily combine with polyester molecules to achieve high-quality design transfer.
One of the disadvantages of using polyester fabric is that it is not suitable for everyone. Polyester is not soft and will cause discomfort and itching when wearing.Comparing with cotton and other natural fibers, its washing cycle is shorter. This is why most customers prefer blended fabrics to 100% polyester fabrics.
Nylon, rayon, and spandex are fabrics that are suitable for sublimation printing because of their durability. One disadvantage is that they cannot provide the same level of comfort as natural fibers. However, when these fabrics are blended with cotton, the comfort of the wearer will increase.
